Bill Timoney

BillBill Timoney entered the field of dubbing Japanese animation – aka anime – in 1991 when he was cast as the lead male voice in the notorious “erotic-grotesque” horror anime Legend of the Overfiend and its’ sequel Legend of the Demon Womb. He then booked the role for which anime fans know him best: “Parn,” the hero of the OAV classic anime Record of Lodoss War and its’ TV version Chronicles of the Heroic Knight.

Bill has voiced several recurring guest villain roles on the enduring TV series Pokemon (including “Nando,” “Conway,” and “Harley #2”). He’s well-known for voicing the role of club president “Madarame” in the fan-boy comedy anime series Genshiken. Bill also adapted the scripts, cast the voice talent, and directed the ADR recording sessions for Genshiken, Genshiken 2 and the show’s companion show Kujibiki Unbalance. Bill script-adapted and directed the dubbing for the 26 episode Gokudo: Swordsman Extraordinaire, and for Gravitation and Gravitation: Lyrics of Love. He directed ADR for Jewel B.E.M. Hunter Lime, Madara, and episodes of Comic Party and Record of Lodoss War. Bill adapted the script for Magical With Punie-chan, as well as for an animated film based on the life of revered Persian poet Rumi MEVLANA.

Bill’s voice work can be heard in the anime-dubs of Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Legend of Himiko, Iria: Zeiram the Animation, Gravitation, Kujibiki Unbalance, Madara, Gokudo:Swordsman Extraordinaire, Battle Skipper, Battle Athletes Victory, Battle Arena Toshinden, Perfect Blue, .hack, Gatchaman II, Black Heaven, Fist of the North Star, Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes, Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure, Jewel B.E.M. Hunter Lime, Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer, Dominion: Tank Police, Here is Greenwood, My My Mai, E.Y.E.S. Bill’s voice works in animated programs from countries other than Japan include the title character in Alosha (aka Alosha Popovich y Tugarin), Konstantin Bronzit’s film for the Melnitsa studio that became the highest-grossing Russian-made animated feature film ever released theatrically in that country. He voiced “robot unit #19,” one of the leads in The Star Maker, the successful children’s animated feature film from Argentina… “King Cyclone” of the balloon kingdom in the Italian-made animation Eggy…. loveable robot “Alex” in China’s Universal Force: Seer Squad… Spain’s Pup 2 No Good…. and South Korea’s Hammerboy, The Doodolls, Robot Trains and The Naughty Nuts. For Italy’s animated biopic Padre Pio, Bill voiced the role of Jesus Christ.

Bill has voiced roles in live-action foreign language films & TV shows from every inhabited continent. He worked on the dubbed versions of the “Best Foreign Language” Academy Award winners IL POSTINO and KOLYA. He voiced the English language performance of veteran Japanese character actor Reni Osugi in filmmaker Sion Sono’s J-horror cult hit EXTE: HAIR EXTENSIONS. He can be heard voicing principal roles in the French zombie flick THE HORDE, the Iranian fright film UNDER THE SHADOW, the Chinese action movies JACKIE CHAN’S PROJECT A, TOKYO RAIDERS, and STORM RIDERS, and the Japanese films WILD CRIMINAL and ZERO WOMAN: FINAL MISSION. He dubbed roles in the Israeli film WASSERMAN: THE DOG THAT COULD SING, and in the Australian-made TV series “Water Rats.”

Director Brian DePalma cast Bill as the voice of the spacecraft computer in his Disney film MISSION TO MARS…. director Woody Allen chose Bill to serve as the guiding voice in the Greek chorus of his Oscar-winning comedy MIGHTY APHRODITE… director Joyce Chopra picked Bill to narrate the World War II movie newsreels in her film MOLLY: AN AMERICAN GIRL ON THE HOMEFRONT… and director Frank Oz selected Bill to provide the voice of “Mind Head” in the Steve Martin / Eddie Murphy comedy BOWFINGER. Oz also hired Bill for voice work on his films THE STEPFORD WIVES and IN & OUT.

American Daytime TV viewers know Bill for his on-camera recurring role as “Alfred Vanderpool,” which he portrayed on the soap opera “All My Children” from 1982 thru 2007. His prime-time TV appearances include roles on “Person of Interest,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Orange is the New Black,” “The Good Cop” and “Mr. Robot.” Bill played the recurring role of “Senator Royce” on the first season of the SyFy Channel’s TV series “12 Monkeys.”

Timoney has enjoyed a long creative collaboration with his friend Bryan Cranston, appearing on his TV series “Malcolm in the Middle,” and in Cranston’s films WAKEFIELD, LAST CHANCE, TRUMBO (as a voice actor), and ALL THE WAY. The two also performed together in the award-winning stage version of ALL THE WAY on Broadway in 2014. It was at Cranston’s urging that Bill auditioned at the famous Improvisation comedy club in New York City back in the 1980s; he passed his audition, becoming a regular roster member stand-up comic and emcee at the Improv for much of that decade. Though he no longer performs in clubs, Bill has applied his stand-up experience to a wide range of charity benefits as an emcee, host, and auctioneer.

But acting remains Timoney’s focus. He recently performed a scene opposite Robert De Niro for director Martin Scorcese’s upcoming film THE IRISHMAN.
